Did it truly help Dust 514 in the long run? Am I just bitter and probably trolling? Or does Angry Joe have a point about paying for a game in "beta?"
I didn't pay for my early access. Free to play and mobile games are the future and are killing consoles. Don't forget that. The boosters and things that I payed for during beta was returned to me at release so I don't care about that. If CCP hadn't let players into the beta I don't think the game would have went very far. This community has made the game what it is.

Saying it costs to much to makes these games is rubish either get your costs under control. Or develop cheeper games till you can make ur big.
See blizzard as an exmaple Blizzard had chopped 30% of its employees this year I believe and they're losing money in world of warcraft development and other games in operational costs. As for game budgets most of them are going astronomical and ARE rivaling movies or sometimes surpassing them in cost totals. Call of Duty Ghosts was certainly one of those games that done so. As graphics get improved as the games get more complicated as games fidelity and demand for better quality increases so does the price significantly. Its a factor on part of the technology and man hours to do so these days. The number is out there but an xbox one launch game is costing nearly 5x more than a xbox 360 launch game.
I don't want to be rude or insulting to anyone but it is the players who have done it. We demand 1080p but what is the percentage of players who have a TV large enough to need 1080p, we want realistic environments and physics and low ping times. We want named actors and movie spin offs. This is why I agree with CCP and other with developers listening to the players and then making a call on what is best for the game. The community may have all the right answers but they don't always know what is best for the whole. If CCP wants to make money then they need to have RL tangible objects for sell. Us nerds want a shirt that says "I kill DUST Bunnies" or "My other car is a Gunlogi".
Lots of game studios are either going through heavy layoffs or closing all together. I read or hear about them a good bit. Part of the problems is with the popularity of video games. They make big money and there was a balloon of publishers and it either had to pop or go down. We are seeing the studios being thinned out by the market and only the really good or frugal will make it.

That leads to a lot of hate because people think it generally means less content for more money, which is usually true. CCP thought so as well and made dust F2P to cash in on the market, and it worked on most of us.
Dust is still severely lacking on one of the key points of F2P though....Having a good way to show off purchased cosmetics, and the selling of these ACTUALLY special cosmetics as well. We were suckers for suits when there was a warbarge but we care a lot less now without the ability to regularly show off our suits.
We also need better cosmetics than just reskins, we need things like a little drone that has functionality in game & cosmetic use out of game, like following you in the barge & chillin in the MQ.
People are starting to come around to the fact that they are paying $60 for a game, $60 for the different DLC, internet, online passes and all that stuff is starting to add up. F2P will have its place but for a good game to live then F2P has to be done really, really good. For many the first time they have to pay to go on in the game is a turn off, the constant begging for money or shoving transactions in our face is tiresome and if a person doesn't money to spend on the next level or has to wait 20 minutes for their life meter to recharge because they don't have the money for a faster recharge it is depressing and they put the game down.
Children don't always have money to spend on the next part of the game and if you think that they aren't going to remember all this junk they are put through with mircotransactions then you are a fool. My son is 13 and daughter is 11 and they both hate F2P because they are not free to play, they are microtransaction games. They will carry that with them shopping from now on and publishers are going to shoot themselves in the foot with it if they don't do it properly.

I am not pointing at this community in particular, We demand things, they come through with them and it costs more and/or takes longer to finish. All I'm saying. People want 64 vs 64 @ 60FPS @ 1080p and it just isn't gong to happen because the time, money or hardware resources aren't there.
